How to Care for Green Beech or Fagus sylvatica is species found around many European countries and makes a handsome medium to large bonsai. It ramifies well and has lots of autumnal colour. See how easy it is to care for and how much of Beginner Bonsai Tree Species it is.
Green Beech make very lovely bonsais. They’re native to most of Europe. The
leaves are singularly serrated. They seem to have a fibrous tip at the end of the serration. The lamina is quite wide, usually three-fourths of the width of the length of the leaf blade. They are between five and ten centimeters in a full-grown tree but in bonsais, they can get quite small.
They have pronounced veins in their leaves. The veins are quite
easily noticeable. The bark is greyish brown. It doesn’t go flaky but it goes quite
rough.
Green Beech loves to grow in full Sun. Wherever and whenever you can, give it a full sunny position.
Pruning. Like most fagus species it likes to be pruned in May, June and then again in August
September when it’s getting towards autumn. Prune only when lateral shoots have started to emerge from the base of this year's, current year’s growth and that will
encourage smaller finer branching.
Repot again in spring towards, March is fine or even, as soon as the leaf buds start swelling is a good time.
Propagation from seed. The Green Beech or Fagus sylvatica grows very very easily from seed. Cuttings take, but because they’re native, you can collect them from more or less anywhere
That really is how to grow Green Beech.
