yes you can reuse old soil for planting just make sure it all looks pretty good, no horrible bugs (like ant infestation) and is healthy dirt. Ensure that any root ball tops have been removed or they will regrow. Bits and Pieces of root are fine to leave in place as they will compost in place and feed the soil.
