Coal ash is produced primarily from the burning of coal in coal-fired power plants.
Dozens of workers tasked with cleaning up the nation's largest coal ash spill in Kingston, Tenn., are dying. More than 17 are dead. An investigation by USA Today Network-Tennessee reveals no one warned them of the stew of toxic chemicals in the fly ash they were breathing and the wet ash they waded in for 14 hours a day, seven-days a week, some of them for years, or provided them basic protection.
