대한불교 조계종 소속의 사찰로 1983년 신라시대 절터였던 자리에 승려 혜국이 창건하였다.
정면 5칸, 측면 3칸의 대웅전과 정면 3칸, 측면 2칸의 오화각이 있으며 이밖에도 소소원(선방),
안양원, 금봉선원, 조종육엽(조실채), 금봉선원, 감로각, 천척루, 회명당(후원), 종무소, 보월당(시민선원) 등 여러 채의 전각이 있다. 금봉산(일명 남산, 663m) 자락에 있으며 충청북도 유형문화재 제265호인 『불설사십이장경(佛說四十二章經)』과 충청북도 유형문화재 제266호인 『인천안목(人天眼目)』, 충청북도 유형문화재 제267호인 『상교정본자비도량참법(詳校正本慈悲道場懺法)』을 소장하고 있다.

This temple belongs to the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and was founded by the monk Hye-guk in 1983 on the site of a temple during the Silla Dynasty. There is Daeungjeon with 5 rooms on the front and 3 rooms on the side, and Ohwagak with 3 rooms on the front and 2 rooms on the sides. In addition, Sosowon (Seonbang), Anyangwon, Geumbongseonwon, Jojogyukyeop (Josilchae), Geumbongseonwon, Gamrogak, and Cheoncheoknu. There are several buildings, including Hoemyeongdang (Howon), Jongmun Office, and Bowoldang (Citizens' Seonwon). It is located at the foot of Geumbongsan Mountain (aka Namsan, 663m) and contains the 『Budseol 42 Janggyeong』, Tangible Cultural Asset No. 265 of Chungcheongbuk-do, and 『Incheon Anmok』, Tangible Cultural Asset No. 266 of Chungcheongbuk-do. It houses Cultural Heritage No. 267, 『Sanggyojeongbonjabidoryangchambeop』.
