World Bank Approves $700 Million for Pakistan | Major Economic Relief Under PRID-MPA Program

In a major economic development, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved $700 million in financial assistance for Pakistan under the Pakistan Public Resources for Inclusive Development – Multi-Phase Programmatic Approach (PRID-MPA).

According to the World Bank, this funding aims to strengthen economic stability, improve public service delivery, and enhance domestic revenue generation at both federal and provincial levels. The PRID-MPA is a results-based national reform program aligned with Pakistan’s ongoing fiscal reforms, the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF), and the National Fiscal Pact.

Out of the approved amount, $600 million will support federal programs, while $100 million has been allocated specifically for Sindh province. The overall framework allows funding of up to $1.35 billion, with disbursements strictly tied to the achievement of predefined reform targets.

World Bank Country Director for Pakistan Bolormaa Amgaabazar emphasized that increasing domestic resources and ensuring their transparent use is critical for sustainable and inclusive growth. The program will help ensure predictable funding for schools and health facilities, promote a fair taxation system, and strengthen data-driven decision-making, while safeguarding social and climate priorities.

Key reforms under the federal component include tax policy and administration reforms, expansion of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), enhancement of e-procurement platforms, targeted subsidy reforms, and strengthening the national statistical system led by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Meanwhile, the Sindh-focused component will support provincial revenue growth, faster and more transparent payments, better use of data in governance, and improved funding for basic healthcare units and schools, contributing to inclusive provincial development.
