ICE shooting: Man shot after attempting to run over federal agents, police say

An ICE-involved shooting occurred on Christmas Eve in Maryland, according to officials.

Officials say ICE agents were conducting an operation when they approached a white van. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, agents identified two undocumented immigrants in the van—Tiago Alexandre Sousa-Martins, from Portugal, and Solomon Antonio Serrano-Esquivel, from El Salvador.

DHS said that when agents told Sousa-Martins to turn off the van, he rammed the van into ICE's vehicles, then tried to run over the agents. That's when agents started shooting at the van, hitting Sousa-Martins. The van then crashed into a nearby tree. Both men were taken to a hospital where they are both in stable condition.

"I am aware of the ICE-involved shooting that occurred earlier today in Glen Burnie. As information surrounding the incident continues to emerge, we will remain in touch with local officials and are standing by to provide support for the community," said Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
