"He was incoherent." Fort Wayne homicide detective Liza Anglin testified a second time the last day of the Shawn Williams murder trial Jan. 8, 2026. Williams was convicted of murder - acting in concert. Williams and Chad Kinney, awaiting trial at the end of February were seen on street video appearing at the victim, Philip Rhinehart's, apartment door Christmas night 2024. Kinney is accused of firing four times, one shot fatally wounding Rhinehart.
After Williams was described by one witness as having a "gentle demeanor," Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tom Chaille brought Anglin back on the stand to talk about her interactions with Williams who was picked up shortly after the homicide.
On cross examination, Anglin told public defender, Jerad Marks, there were no good interactions with the defendant and that he was uncooperative.
Chaille pressed her on the details to which she replied "he was incoherent" and appeared to be sleepy. He would doze off during the interview, wake up and then fall back asleep. Did she think those actions were legit? No, she said.
Marks wanted to know if perhaps the reactions were due to narcotics use. Anglin replied that she didn't know, but later said "potentially yes."
Williams is due to be sentenced March 23, a month after Kinney's trial is scheduled.
