In this video, I demonstrate how to blend colours on drafting film using coloured pencils. Drafting film, being a smooth surface, doesn’t offer as much tooth as surfaces like Pastelmat. This limits the number of layers we can apply (usually between 4-10), depending on the pressure used.
Since pigments don’t “move” on drafting film like they do on other surfaces, smooth blending requires light pressure, careful colour choices, and the right hatching techniques. I’ll show you how to achieve smooth transitions, even though this surface is more suited for textures like fur. These blending techniques are especially useful for areas like eyes, ears, or paws, where you need a smoother finish.
