In ancient India, the Gurukul education system involved students living with their Guru in an ashram. Education was based on an oral tradition, with the Guru reciting and explaining sacred texts, while students listened, memorized, and repeated. The curriculum included various subjects, and practical skills were taught alongside theoretical knowledge. Students followed a strict routine, received personalized attention, and lived as a close-knit community. The Guru-Shishya relationship was built on respect and reverence, fostering character building and moral values. The Gurukul system played a crucial role in shaping India's intellectual and spiritual traditions.
In 1935 Lord Macaulay sent the officers G.W. Luther and the other was Thomas Munro! Both surveyed different areas at different times. Luther, who surveyed North India, wrote that there is 97% literacy and Munro, who surveyed South India, wrote that there is 100% literacy here.
A resolution was adopted in March 1835. The British government should focus primarily on promoting European science and literature among Indians, and “all money appropriated for the purpose of education would be best spent on English education alone,” according to the British government.
