FINALLY!!!!
This was one of the longest waits I've ever had to endure...because I finished this vid a few days after my birthday in July! (on 7/29, to be exact) It's been sitting in a folder waiting to be uploaded, and now I finally can since a very special day is here!
So while I've had this vid planned and finished for a long time, I also entered it into an AMV contest. Unfortunately it did not make it in, but two others of mine did, so it's okay. Hence the opening titles that I don't normally use and was too lazy to change, lol xD
What is this very special day today, you ask? It's the 2nd year anniversary of one of my most favorite DreamWorks movies...
On the night of November 3rd in 2016, my parents and I made a stop at Downtown Disney. I thought I wouldn't get to see this movie for awhile, but my mom and I decided to watch it at the AMC theater. I mean I wasn't expecting anything great, but the movie was still DreamWorks and I at least wanted to see it once out of support - even if it ended up being terrible. The original Troll dolls always creeped me out for some reason, so I had no nostalgic/emotional attachment towards them yet. I was also upset for some reason (at Disneyland?) but can't remember why.
My mom and I were the only ones in the theater with about two other people while my dad went back to our hotel, and she stayed awake the whole time (she rarely goes to the theater, much less stays awake during a movie) She loved it too and by the time it was over, I forgot about why I was previously upset and continued to enjoy vacation with my parents. Unfortunately for my dad, he wasn't able to completely avoid this movie because I made him go see it with me later xD
Long story short, I actually ended up LOVING the movie and its message that happiness isn't something you put inside, it's already there - sometimes you just need someone to help you find it. I was in awe of the animation, textures and bright colors, especially during my favorite moment - "True Colors" - which is honestly one of the most beautiful and touching scenes I have ever witnessed in an animated film. My breath was taken away when Branch regained his true colors after seeing him gray and unhappy throughout most of the movie, and he instantly became my favorite character along with Poppy and her never-ending enthusiasm.
I haven't had a truly big "obsession" with a movie since the first Incredibles in 2004, seeing the movie at a total of four times and wanting everything that had to do with it. I broke my movie-seeing record at the theater with Rise of the Guardians at a total of six times. I finally broke my record again with Trolls at seven, even going to the movie twice in one day at the same theater! It's also the first movie I've ever gone to by myself after all these years, which was a big milestone for me. I have a blanket, Poppy and Branch plushes on my bed, "The Art of Trolls" book that I love looking through and reading about how the movie was made and the creators' inspirations, along with the junior novelization and more. Obsessed, you say? Maybe. I prefer "passionate" x)
The official description I wrote in my contest submission form:
"Trolls is one of my favorite animated movies, and its 2nd year anniversary is coming up on November 4th. I wanted to do something special to celebrate and since "The Sound of Silence" is sung in the film, I also wanted to try and put a more serious, unexpected version of the song with it. I hope to show how much the movie means to me personally and why - that beneath all the singing, dancing, humor and glitter is actually a heartfelt story about finding happiness and true colors within ourselves...even in the sound of silence."
Since it's such a colorful and vibrant movie, I knew I would have to add a black & white kind of effect or else it would not have worked with this serious and depressing version of the song, lol! And it's also funny because I didn't realize how WELL this song actually fits. Kudos to DreamWorks for amazing song choices!
Soooo, am I worried about the sequel "World Tour" that's coming out in 2020? A little...maybe a lot. Sequels usually tend to go big or go home compared to the originals, and it ends up being too much (as evidenced by the Trolls holiday short, which takes place after the movie) but I have faith in DreamWorks that the official sequel to Trolls will be just as heartwarming and touching (hopefully) as the first :) Maybe I'll even break my record and go 8 or more times!
Thank you for this amazing and beautiful movie that I unexpectedly loved and still love so much, DreamWorks!
Oh, and thank you all so much for 7,000 subs as well! Yet another milestone reached! =D And one last thing...I am NEVER finishing a video for an anniversary that early ever again!
