Here we have PERCY a 27th January 1969 built Austin Mini Cooper MKII 998cc. Its was dispatched to Maskells Ltd in Brixton on the 12 July 1969. It comes in probably the best colour combination available at the time Tartan Red with a Black roof and of course the all Black interior.

The 998cc Cooper engine is of course an A Series, transverse overhead valves, in unit with clutch, gearbox, final drive and produced 55bhp @ 5800 rpm with 57 ib ft torque @ 3000 rpm so a very impressive increase from the standard 34bhp. Twinned with Twin SU HS2 & a four speed synchromesh gearbox makes for the best driving Mini in my opinion. These sound fantastic!

This example has had 8 owners in his long life, the last 2 owning it from 1984, the most recent owner having it since 2004, Percy was part of a VERY impressive Mini collection so has been unbelievably cared for. He’s been sparingly used under their ownership and has now only covered an original 79071 Miles. The Mini has just spent some time being pampered and recommissioned by the amazing team at AceSpeed in Shipley, these guys know the Mini’s better than most. He’s had a long list of work carried out to get him ready for todays requirements, new brakes, wheels & tyres, his timing sorted and a few minor bits and pieces. I have had the pleasure of spending a few miles in him whilst photographing and filming him, I truly want to keep this one! He flies along and makes a great sound. Whilst photoing him a number of walkers felt the need to come and have a closer look and reminisce over their experiences with a Mini (“mine wasn’t like this”, was a common phrase) isn’t this why we all love Mini’s.

The Cooper Minis came with many many upgrades from the standard Mini things such as, 7 inch front discs brakes, the improved engine performance, 100 MPH speedo, oil pressure & temp gauges, lots of styling touches and an improved interior. Lots of chrome, fabulous wheels and Percy goes a few steps further sporting twin tanks. He comes with a fresh MOT even though he’s MOT exempted as I wanted to show how good he really is.

These Mini’s today are extremely rare and becoming very valuable!
