King Tide Event West Island Fairhaven at Causeway and Almond St shoreline 11 15 2016 0800HRS
The King Tide was merciful this Tuesday morning at the high tide cycle at 8AM, November 15, 2016. The yards, under water, are part of the property that abutts Almond St - on the west shoreline of West Island.
Full Moon tides are at their highest this time in the Fall and around the first week of Spring when the sun and moon exert a double gravitational pull, creating higher tides than usual. Add a storm system with a southerly wind direction, and tidal surges can get much worse along Southern Mass and Buzzards Bay. The hurricane barrier has been busy with scheduled closings and very likely will continue over the next few cycles.
