Divine Unity: A Deeper Look at God, Creation, and Our Purpose
Have you ever felt a deep sense of loneliness, or struggled with the concept of evil in a world supposedly created by a benevolent God? Dr. Seyyed Mehdi Hooman Beheshti, in his lecture invites us to re-examine our fundamental understanding of God, existence, and our place within it.
The lecture's central theme revolves around the Unity of God (Tawhid). This perspective argues that all of existence, everything we perceive – stars, trees, humans, the moon, the earth, the sun, and light – are not separate creations, but rather manifestations (tajalliyat) of God Himself. This profound view challenges the common belief that God created the world and then remained separate from it.
Dr. Beheshti emphasizes that the idea of creation being separate from God leads to significant theoretical and practical challenges. If we believe in a separate existence, we might feel isolated and alone, which is a fundamental human suffering. This view also raises the profound question of how an inherently unified God could, by creating "other" beings, be the origin of duality and "shirk" (attributing partners to God).
