Radiant, immersive, and profoundly spiritual — Yves Klein’s 'Sculpture éponge bleue sans titre (SE 167)' stands among the artist’s most important creations. Executed in 1960, this exceptional work rises from a natural stone base into a constellation of sea sponges drenched in Klein’s signature ultramarine pigment, known as International Klein Blue (IKB).
A masterpiece of Klein’s 'Sculptures éponges series', 'SE 167' embodies his lifelong pursuit of immaterial sensibility — a vision of pure color and boundless space that forever changed the trajectory of modern art.
Treasured in a private collection for over six decades, 'SE 167' is now revealed to the public for the first time since 1967. Its luminescent blue surface and organic form capture the artist’s conviction that “it is no longer a question of seeing color, but of perceiving it.”
In 'SE 167', blue becomes more than color — it becomes an experience of infinity itself. This monumental work will be offered in The Now and Contemporary Evening Auction in New York on November 18th, 2025.
