Trams in Craiova: In the soviet apartment blocks's shadow (2020/2024)

Trams have only been running through the city of Craiova, located in southwestern Romania, since 1987. The only 18-kilometer-long route crosses the city in an east-west direction and connects several residential and industrial areas as well as the city center. A large part of the line runs along the middle of the busy Calea București, which is lined with large soviet-era apartment buildings.
The interurban route to the Ișalnița industrial area, which previously ran once per hour, has been out of service for several years. All tracks on the rest of the route have now been renewed. While the fleet in 2020 still consisted of second-hand cars from Vienna and Berlin, since 2023 only modern Pesa low-floor cars have been in use.
