PanPastel Application Tips: Rich, Buttery Layers on UART 600 Dark Paper

Do your PanPastel paintings look thin, with the paper texture showing through? You’re not alone — this is one of the most common struggles when starting out with PanPastel, especially on dark UART 600 paper.

One of the reasons I love using UART 600 dark paper is that it gives you the feeling of unlimited layers. You can build rich applications with PanPastel and then still use pastel pencils with ease, even over a couple of layers. It frees you from overthinking how much you’re layering — but only if you learn how to get off that “bottom layer” where the texture still shows through.

In this livestream, I’ll show you how to:

• Apply PanPastel in thicker, buttery layers that glow with vibrancy

• Load and wipe your Sofft tools for best results (and make them last longer)

• Keep your palette clean and colors fresh as you work

• Build depth and richness so your work shines on dark paper

• 56:20 Demonstrated how to use the Colorless Blender

I’ll demo exactly what it looks like to move past the “bottom layer” and achieve the luminous, painterly effects you see in my lessons.
