Volvo master cylinder test before replace.

My Volvo's brakes started to creep when sitting at traffic lights, or in traffic. There was no brake fluid leaking, which would obviously be evidence of the fluid escaping the system somewhere, and be very easy to spot. My reasoning was that if it wasn't leaking, it somehow had to be recirculating around something, or the brake booster/servo was faulty. The obvious choice for me was the master cylinder, suspecting that an internal seal had gone, allowing brake fluid past it and back into the system. I also considered that it might be a problem with a seal in the brake booster, allowing the boosted system to creep down.
I changed the master cylinder, which wasn't cheap, and it made no difference. I was annoyed that i hadnt checked it properly before replacing it (mainly because I couldn't see how the ABS unit could cause this). I then came up with this way of checking your master cylinder and brake booster/servo before splashing out on a new master cylinder or servo replacement. The fitting I used are standard brake fitting, available in lots of places. Probably the cheapest way to make them, would be cut them off a scrap car, and seal them by bending them like I did. Now I know mine are fine, I'm sourcing an ABS unit to test further. I'll upload the results as soon as I do.

Phil
