(WARNING - LOUD NOISE FOR THE FIRST 1 MINUTE AND 16 SECONDS. The Pakrac Project (also known as the Pakrac Social Reconstruction Project, or Volunteer Project Pakrac) began in July 1993 and involved around 400 activists and volunteers from all over Former Yugoslavia and the world. Pakrac was retaken by the Croatian army in Operation Flash in May 1995, but the Pakrac Project stuck by local people until early 1997. Professor Adam Curle, founder of Bradford University Peace Studies, called the Pakrac Project 'A landmark in efforts towards reconciliation with universal application'. It was just one of scores of brave actions by the locally-led Croatian AntiWar Campaign, which itself was just a part of the unsung but heroic and very influential Former Yugoslav peace movement that was active in the most dangerous parts of the wars of the 1990s and continues to work on the after-effects of the war and the prevention of future violence.
