John Shelton, the maker of this clock certainly knew how to make an impressive looking clock. It's magnificent, isn't it? The dial here has the break arch over the top with the seconds hand here, the date of the month, the Greenwich Mean Time minute hand, the Greenwich Mean Time hour hand and the solar time, the same as a sundial would give. And so that as the months progress, the angle between these will come to nought and go the other way and backwards and forwards with the sun in advance or behind the Greenwich Mean Time. And of course, that's the only thing you could check a clock by was a sundial. And usually, the sundials were engraved with the Equation of Time but here Shelton is trying to show the Equation of Time in its simplest form with the difference between the Greenwich Mean Time hand and the solar hand.
