Barney's Story – A Klaxon Klick Feature

Meet Barney, an active wheelchair user from Sawtell, NSW, Australia.

Barney was only 20 years old when he was the passenger in a car accident which broke his neck and paralysed him from the chest down. He was diagnosed with complete C6 Quadriplegia and was told her would never walk, run, or surf again. Over the past few years, he has continued to defy odds and is able to take assisted steps and even brought home the gold in the World Adaptive Surf Championships in 2019.

In 2020, he set out on a soul fulfilling journey with his wife Kada Miller across Australia. APEX Mobility worked with one of their dealers to assist Barney with his travels by providing power assist options for a smoother and stronger ride. The Klaxon Klick Power Assist made touring Australia’s outback terrain easier by turning his manual wheelchair into power by adding the lightweight attachment. This eased the pressure on Barney’s body and reduced wear and tear on his shoulders.

Barney now enjoys being able to walk the dogs with his wife, explore and do his own thing. The power assist has allowed him to become more involved in activities and continue to learn, grow and build memories with his wife and friends.
