PCOC is a national approach towards the routine assessment in palliative care practice
using standardised assessment tools.
Resource Utilisation Group Activities Daily Living (RUG-ADL) and Australian-modified Karnofsky Performance Scale (AKPS) are two assessment tools to measure patient function and performance.
RUG-ADL is a 4-item scale measuring motor function with activities of daily living which inform us about the patient's functional status, the assistance they require to carry out these activities and the resources needed for the patient’s care.
AKPS measures overall performance or ability to manage activities of daily living.
This video details how to read and understand RUG-ADL and AKPS scores and how to effectively use it.
