Italian Wandi Cookie Recipe | Italian Wandies | Chiacchiere
Italian Bowtie Cookie Recipe | Bowknot Cookie Recipe | Baking from Scratch |
3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour more if needed & more for dusting work surface
1/4 cup of granulated sugar
1 stick butter/4 ounces
4 eggs room temperature
1/2 glass white wine 8 ounces - not to exceed 8 ounces
1 1/2 tsp anise extract
2 tsp teaspoon baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Lemon zest 1/3 cup
3 cups vegetable/canola/sunflower oil for frying
Powder sugar for dusting
Honey for drizzling
Directions:
Hand Mixing the Dough for Italian Wandi’s I always hand mix this recipe.
Step#1- Sift all dry ingredients together. Slowly add one egg at a time room temperature eggs.
Then add the anise, white wine, and butter.
Step#2- It should form a soft dough. If it’s too sticky you can add more flour a tablespoon at a time. Keep a reserved bowl of flour to work with on hand
Step#3- Once the dough has formed let it rest covered on work surface 45 minutes.
Using a rolling pin. Cut a piece of dough and begin to roll thinly keep dusting with flour so not to stick on work surface.
Step#4- A very thin dough is needs to be acquired.
Step#5- Cut into rectangular pieces. Make a slit in the middle and pass one side through the slit creating a bow.
Step#6- Proceed with cutting rectangular pieces and making the bows.
Step#7- In a large frying pan add your vegetable oil and bring to 365 degrees. Add your bows and turn when lightly golden.
Step#8 Drain on a cookie sheet lined with paper towels. Dust Well the Powdered Sugar. Perfecto a Pretty Wandi Cookie Presentation
