In this episode, I will discuss one of the strongest and prettiest fixed loop knots that I've ever encountered. It is listed as number 1032 in the Ashley Book of Knots, the most thorough and important encyclopedia of knots ever created. Other names include the "Chinese Crown" and "Chinese Cross" knots.
ABOK 1032 can be used for utility purposes and for decorative purposes, due to how attractive the knot is. Ashley states that this knot is likely of Chinese origin and meant for decorative purposes. With that said, the resulting knot is actually extremely secure and I honestly wonder whether or not it might even be capable of life support applications.
However, until this knot is tested, it's impossible for me to say that this knot should be used for anything but non-critical rigging, hauling, and for non-life support applications. It would be a great utility knot for securing something to an object. It has a fixed loop, which can be useful in many situations. Ashley states that this knot is very secure.
