Contemporary chandlers Lola Lely and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo produce small batches of hand-dipped beeswax candles and waxed textiles from their East London wax workshop. Their colour palette of soft pinks and mossy greens are created using a range of natural plant-based dyes — each with their own distinctive tone, scent and colour.
In a short film by James Bannister, we follow Wax Atelier’s traditional candle-making process. From the extracting of the dyes and the melting down of the beeswax, to the steady hand dipping and drying. Each candle is finished by hand by Lola and Yesenia, creating a clean and primeval light as it slowly burns.
