Venice Homeless Encampment Cleanup in Full Swing: Comprehensive Operation Underway

On Thursday, August 10, 2023, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works conducted a cleanup operation aimed at addressing health and safety concerns within a homeless encampment located on Main Street, Ocean Front Walk, and Mildred Ave. in Venice. The main goal of this effort was to tackle notable health and safety issues affecting both unhoused individuals and the general public. Sanitation workers, dressed in white hazardous materials suits, followed strict safety protocols during the operation.

LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) played a pivotal role in delivering homeless outreach services throughout the cleanup, providing assistance and support to those impacted.

To ensure the safety of all individuals involved and to ensure cooperation from the unhoused population, Los Angeles Police Officers maintained a continuous presence during the entire cleanup operation, which aimed to uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards in the area.

While the cleanup of homeless encampments in Venice has positive implications for public health and safety, it's important to acknowledge that it doesn't present a long-term solution to the broader issue of homelessness. Among the items discarded from the sidewalk were a mattress, refrigerator, and even a kitchen sink.
