THE HARD TRUTH! of WINTER Living on a Narrowboat, Llangollen Canal - 393

Winter. Winter is one of the biggest downfalls of being a continuous cruiser on a narrowboat. Well for some. But for us we love it. The once overwhelmingly busy Llangollen Canal has been transformed, gone are the thousands of hire boats, massive queues for locks, and boats flying all over the place. Now we have the canal almost to ourselves and it is all thanks to winter, with good reason, narrowboating in the winter is a whole different ball game, waking up to a frost-covered boat, seeing your breath inside the boat, being stuck thanks to the canal freezing, frozen water points. It does have its drawbacks, and today we will be affected by one of them. Setting off from Hampton, bank near Ellesmere on our 70-foot narrowboat, we head through the ancient Whixall moss, on our way to Fen's Bank near Whitchurch, on this beautiful but cold winter's day.
