'Monte Carlo or Bust' (also known as 'Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies') was a sequel to 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines' (1965).
The film, like many of the time, has an ensemble cast, with most characters (except the leads) appearing only every ten minutes or so. Sometimes everybody is in the same place at the same time, with allegedly riotous consequences.
Cook (Major Digby Dawlish) and Moore (Lt. Kit Barrington) are a couple of pukka army types, and for the first part of the film their main adversary is Willi Schickel (Gert Fröbe), who is German, so the usual jokes apply (the ones about Jerry, sauerkraut, etc.).
By the way, the reason the German runs off is not for fear of a damned good thrashing as Dawlish presumes, but because he has escaped from prison and is wanted by the authorities.
You can hear Sousa's 'Liberty Bell' playing in the background; this film was released about six months before the debut of the first Monty Python series.
