Trains in the snow in Walton, Kentucky at several locations on CSX and NS. There are 7 trains in this video including a night train. Some of these trains are fast a couple of them seem to be making power moves. We got some snow so it was time to film some trains.
The first train is a CSX mixed freight that came from the industrial spur that runs along the Ohio River. This train got on the CSX Short Line at Worthington, Kentucky. It's a nice train but the second train is really interesting. It is a long Norfolk Southern mixed freight with a mid train DPU going around the banked curve that is called a super elevated curve. This train has a very loud DPU. It is the loudest DPU that I have heard yet so be ready to turn down the volume at about 8:13 in the video.
The third train has 6 NS locomotives. Check out that view of it coming around the super elevated curve on Locust Street. Apparently they are making a power move since this train only needed a couple of locomotives.
Next, we change locations in Walton and catch a southbound CSX mixed freight with 3 locomotives. This train is hauling 4 car loads of track panels. Have you ever seen this before? It looks like something you would see on a model train layout.
Then we see a Federal Railroad Administration train on the CSX tracks at Locust Street. The train is doing track inspections and uses lasers to check the rails. The first car says "Gage Restraint Measurement Vehicle" and the second car says "FRA Office Of Safety". You can actually see the laser lights on the track below the second car. I have filmed this train before in Ohio.
The sixth train is a Norfolk Southern mixed freight with a DPU on the rear. This train is in a hurry.
I was ready to head for home but I heard on the radio that there was a motor vehicle collision on the interstate bridge over the Ohio River. I would rather sit by the railroad tracks than sit in traffic so I decided to stay in Walton and get a night train.
The last train is an empty grain train. It was completely dark out so I used my truck lights and changed cameras. I filmed it in 4K and it actually came out better than I expected. Most of this video was filmed in 4K. Thanks again to Paul for sending me the hats, pin, sweater and for the lunch that I ate in Glendale, Ohio a couple weeks ago! It was a cold day in Walton but the sweater really kept me warm.
