Coolerworx Shifter - MINI R56 Install

Today we will be going over the Install process for my Coolerworx Short Shifter on a MINI R56. I am EXTREMELY happy with how this thing feels in the car especially on track, the throw is exactly how I wanted, short very knotchy and the shift knob is super close to my steering wheel making the shifts even quicker. Ill be doing a product overview in a future video but just wanted a short install recap on its own. WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS:

-Start by removing your center console, it’s held in by various T15’s, use a screwdriver or plastic pry tool to remove the shift boot, then pull up on console to get it to unclip. Be sure to unplug all connected electrical parts towards the front of the console

-Go underneath car remove the clamp holding the exhaust to the downpipe, remove exhaust from hangers

-Remove around 12 nuts that hold up the heatshield in place and remove once loosened all the way

-Remove lower cover with pick to oem shiftbox

-Remove U-Clips by prying them off

-Unhook the 2 shift cable ball joints , they will pop off

-Remove the 4 bolts that hold the oem shifter assembly in place and lower it down from underneath the car

-Take off the foam gasket that sits on top the OEM assembly and place it similarly on the Coolerworx Shifter

-Install the Coolwerworx shifter from the bottom of the car have someone grab it up top and use givin hardware bolts and washers to re thread it into the car

-Pull through the shifter cables and attach the U Clips

-Add grease to ball joints and pop them back onto the Coolerworx shifter

-We added nuts to the tops of the bolts from inside the car as well

-Check to be sure with cables hooked up you can get the car into reverse and all gears, if not you may need to adjust the length of the joint connector to be longer or shorter accordingly

-Once shifter seems to be operating as required bolt up the lower plate of the shifter assembly underneath the car

-Reassemble the heat shield and exhaust you had prior taken off

-From inside the car now use the small set screws to use the reverse lockout and side to side motion allowance you prefer

-Re assemble your console however you see fit, I cut mine in half where the shifter assembly started

-Re attach any required electrical components and mount the two buttons where you want. (mine are under the cubby hole where the aux jack goes)
