On this video I'll be replacing a broken brake caliper, the old and rusty brake drum and the worn out brake pads.
This detailed job you can perform at home with common hand tools.
For this project you will need:
-DOT 3 brake fluid [2 large bottles needed for complete purge and bleed]
-High quality brake pads
-CRC Disk Brake Quiet
-Anti-seize lubricant (preferably cooper based)
-An acetone based brake cleaner spray can
-Medium strength blue threadlocker
-A a cheap funnel for brake fluid
-An aluminum tray to catch spills
-Duct tape (just to cover parts for paining and protecting painted calipers and painted parts)
The solo bottle for bleeding the brake system (make your own research on this)
-Clear vinyl tubing [1/4 inch in diameter] (diameter for the rear caliper is different form the front caliper)
-A couple of small zip ties
Mandatory parts for the best results
-High quality break pads (usually aftermarket perform better) [make sure they are shimmed!!]
-Break caliper for your specific model [with or without the caliper bracket will depend on your vehicle needs] Make sure the set comes with new banjo bolts and the 2 copper gaskets to avoid leaks!
-Break drums for the rear braking system [pre-painted for best results]
-Brand new hardware clips [preferably teflon coated] aftermarket are easy to get, and cheap
-Brand new sliding guide pins slave and master[I used aftermarket, for oem from nissan, part # 44139-JA00A]
-Brand new caliper bolts (from the Nissan parts store part# 08044-2351A)
-Protective gloves, protective eye wear.
For optional steps
Respirator mask [for painting and cleaning steps]
-Wire wheel, wire brush, sand paper for removing superficial rust removal
-High temperature primer, high temperature paint for brakes, and high temperature clear coat
Compatible models : Nissan Altima coupe and sedan from 2008-2013
