Paulownia Wood: Truck Delivers Wood to House... hilarity ensues

On the morning of January 23, 2020 I woke up to the sounds of my doorbell ringing. When I answered, it was an Estes LTL truck attempting to deliver a wholesale order of Paulownia wood...to my house.

It was my Paulownia lumber. However, because we bought the wood from a new sawmill vendor, they accidentally used my Upland, California home address as a ship-to address instead of the Commercial Forest Products yard (located in 11251 Buena Vista Drive in Fontana, CA 92337 - for any potential new suppliers.)

For the record, Estes did nothing wrong. They were given the wrong address by our sawmill supplier. We did not catch the error when the LTL truck's Bill of Lading was emailed. Oops!

Technically, I could have sent the driver away and had him deliver to our warehouse in Fontana. However, that would have cost someone a huge truck re-consignment fee. Also, as dumb as it sounds, Estes would have to return the paulownia to its central Los Angeles distribution center even though they have a warehouse in Fontana that is minutes from our mill.

Fortunately, the lumber on the Estes truck was a 10' unit of Paulownia or Empresswood. For those of you who have never used Empress wood, it' is ultra lightweight. Thus, I clipped the steel bands on the lumber unit and hand-unloaded the wood off the LTL truck and onto my driveway.

Always double check the Bill of Lading before your truck leaves! Lesson learned.
