How do you tell a story that isn’t yours? How can you truly embody the truth, the feeling, and the emotion behind a personal experience? The journey of Movement for Mercy seeks to uncover answers to these questions. The process of creating work for this production starts with relationships developing at the speed of trust. Young people currently and formerly involved in Keshet’s M3 programming inside juvenile justice facilities can choose to share their stories, experiences, and opinions to be included in Movement for Mercy. Keshet instructors relay the directions and wishes of youth to collaborators on the outside who work to represent artistic visions with authenticity and honesty. When the creative journey has culminated on the stage, we must ask, “what comes next?” We invite you to reflect: How can we harness the same innovation used to craft a movement exploration and apply it to how we transform systems? How can we boldly dream of a future that truly serves and supports the young people of our communities?
