"Home" from Undertale, with lyrics - LaurentheFlute (originally from 2016)

Oh, hello, everybody. I've been on hiatus for most of this year due to health reasons, but I couldn't let the tenth anniversary of Undertale go by without celebrating it somehow.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything new to share. But I do have something OLD to share: this cover I made back in 2016 but never posted because I wanted to do something special for the video. I never made that something special. And I couldn't make a new video of me singing along because I have changed so much since I recorded this song nine years ago, it wouldn't have felt right.

So instead I drew this picture of Toriel and baby Asriel, which is where I imagine this song would be sung, as a lullaby.

Like Toriel, I had many dreams when this song was made that never came true; life has been harder in ways I couldn't possibly have imagined at the time. But there's something kind of special about listening back to a recording of myself when I was younger and more whole, in the role of the younger-and-more-whole version of a character. It's like a window away from our current reality to a time when I could imagine a better and brighter future. And maybe that's the respite we need to remember what imagining something like that is like.

I'm not really a lyricist. I don't know that I did a good job with this, but I did my best at the time. Voice is me, flute is me, guitar is my friend Brian Diamond who also did the mixing for me. This was previously available on a fan album that has since been taken down for complicated reasons, so if it sounds familiar, you're not imagining things.
