Welcome to the Official YouTube Channel of DNA Forensics Laboratory Pvt. Ltd.
In this video, we will be discussing the accuracy of the Paternity DNA Test report. Though there is an increase in awareness about DNA testing, especially Paternity DNA tests in India and the world, many people are still concerned about the accuracy of the final report.
This video debunks the misconceptions about the DNA Paternity Test report.
What is a Paternity DNA Testing & Why is it Important?
A paternity DNA test is conducted to confirm the biological relationship between a child and the alleged father. It can be done for various purposes, such as:
For peace of mind
In Legal matters, that is, court cases
Immigration purposes
Organ Transplantation, etc.
Peace of Mind Paternity Testing is for those who want the test only for personal information. A legal DNA test is required for immigration, organ transplant, or court-ordered paternity tests.
DNA Testing Process & Accuracy of the Paternity DNA Test Report
For a Peace of Mind Paternity DNA Test, DNA samples from the child and the alleged father are collected. Buccal swabs (cells collected from the mouth) are preferred as they provide high-quality DNA, similar to or better than samples from nails and hair.
Once received, the samples are tested in our facility using the STR profiling method, known for its highest accuracy. DNA test for paternity conducted using STR profiling is globally accepted.
For a Legal Paternity DNA Test, the sample collection process remains the same, but samples must be collected in the presence of a judge or a court-appointed representative. The report is sent directly to the honorable judge and not to the customer.
Accuracy of the Report
For almost all types of relationship DNA tests, including Paternity tests, the test shows the probability of genetic linkage. If there is a 99.9% match in the DNA profiles of the tested persons, it means that the tested persons are biologically related to each other, and if there is a 0% match, then it means they are not biologically related.
If there is a 99.9% match in the DNA profiles of the tested persons, it means that the tested persons are biologically related to each other, and if there is a 0% match, then it means they are not biologically related.
A regular paternity test without the mother’s DNA is called a Motherless Paternity Test. If the mother’s DNA is also tested, it is known as a Paternity Trio Test. We recommend including the mother’s DNA sample for higher accuracy.
