Sexual abuse of non-human animals is happening everywhere, but it is a topic nobody likes to talk about. Non-human animals are incapable of giving informed consent, which is a fundamental requirement of any sexual relationship. In most of Europe, sexual abuse of non-human animals is illegal, but in Estonia, it is a grey area - the law does not regulate it. This makes Estonia a safe haven for people who want to abuse non-human animals without possible repercussions. We at Loomus have been working on the illegalisation of sexual abuse of non-human animals for several years, and we are hoping for the solution in 2025. In this presentation, I will give an overview of the legal status in different countries, as well as statistics and literature on the topic, and I will discuss our work, status, setbacks, and wins.
