Ringke Onyx iPhone 17 Pro Max Review - Looks Similar, Way Worse Protection

The Ringke Onyx looks like the non-clear version of the Fusion — same shape, same silhouette, same vibe. But just because two cases look similar doesn’t mean they protect the same. Once I ran this through my full 30-drop protocol, the numbers told a very different story.

-fairly thin case
-oversized corners on the bottom and top, top edge extends quite a bit
-i like the finish of the case
-fairly abrasive matte finish on the back
-dotted grip strip finish on the edges
-corner top and bottoms are smooth
-grip is amazing with all the different finishes on the case
-gives you a false sense of security with the case
-case weighs 42g, one of the lightest in my test group
-will increase the bulk of your iPhone by 51%
-for corner drops, this case suffered through 11.9G's which is 13% higher
-when it came to the rotation rate after the corner drop
-it was better by 40%
-BUT once it stopped rotating, the settling rate was terrible
-it kept moving and was 65% worse than average
-overall, the total force was 16% below average
-it's hard to make sense of these values, my best guess is because the iPhone doesn't spin much after a corner drop, the total force is lower because the total time under drop is a bit shorter

-for face first drops
-because of the bigger corners
-this case passes
-case was better by 30% for initial impact
-but the rate at which it settles was terrible, 42% worse than average
-and the total force is average

-for camera lump
-Ringke is consistent with the TPU cover and the furthest part of the case are the lips around the camera rings
-for the intial impact, this case was 6% worse than average, almost negligible
-decay rate was 20% worse
-and the total force was about 9% better

-so compared to the Ringke fusion case from two videos ago,
-this case was worse despite having almost the same physical shape
-both cases had a TPU edge BUT the fusion had a PC back which helped mitigate the drops
-cool
-durability wise, this case has corners that are 2.2mm thick, same with the back
-case does have air pockets as well that are about .6mm deep
-the biggest difference between this and the Ringke fusion is the back
-It only takes 6.5N to bend it 8mm
-this thing is 77% floppier than the average case
-that's going to make a difference in the next section

-for table slides, on the back, this case isn't going anywhere
-BUT on the front, it's got a bit of slide to it
-for magsafe accessories, takes 9.3N to pull, 11.8 to Push
-a hair above average at 7%
-buttons on the case are integrated
-work better than the clear version
-but still squishy
-camera button isn't covered
-port cutout is bigger than average but uncomfortable for the pinky
-screen access is top notch with this product because the edges are so low
