Johannes Kepler (1571 bis 1630) war ein deutscher Astronom und Mathematiker, der die Bewegung der Planeten erstmals exakt beschrieb. Seine drei Keplerschen Gesetze zeigen, dass Planeten keine perfekten Kreise ziehen, sondern elliptische Bahnen und dass ihre Geschwindigkeit vom Abstand zur Sonne abhängt. Keplers Arbeit bildete die Grundlage für Isaac Newtons Gravitationstheorie und prägt bis heute die Erforschung fremder Welten.

Auch das Weltraumteleskop Kepler, benannt nach ihm, hat Geschichte geschrieben. Es suchte jahrelang nach fernen Planeten, sogenannten Exoplaneten, und entdeckte Tausende neue Welten außerhalb unseres Sonnensystems. Viele davon liegen so weit entfernt, dass wir sie nie direkt sehen werden, doch sie eröffnen uns eine Ahnung, wie vielfältig und fremdartig das Universum sein kann.

The space telescope Kepler, named after him, made history by scanning the sky for distant planets known as exoplanets and discovering thousands beyond our Solar System. Many are so far away that we will never see them directly, yet they reveal how diverse and alien the universe may truly be.
