Peter Lawson Smith (August 6, 1930-February 17, 2025) my godfather AND stepfather, was a huge Mahler fan. Yesterday, we laid him to rest at the Church of Saint James The Less, Scarsdale. I had never played the Adagietto as a violin solo before (and there are some crunchy moments, forgive me) but I’m grateful to Victoria for giving it a whirl. I think he would have liked it. Many of his family and friends can be seen returning from the altar after having received the Heavenly Host. Peter’s urn is in the lower left corner.
