Artist's Note: Back in October, I went up to visit Meka for a weekend. About an hour after I left for home, Zach messaged us, asking if we would write a song for his upcoming XY rewrite. I messaged Meka, "when you see this, call me". We talked it over for a bit, and eventually agreed to his proposal, partly because I'm actually a fan of Zach's Black & White rewrite videos, but also because Meka and I had never actually written something original together before, and thought this'd be a good opportunity to try something out.

By the time I got home that same day, Meka had sent me the instrumental demo, and then it was up to me to write lyrics. From early on, I knew that I wanted to have a title and work from there, preferably with something that directly referenced XY somehow. I came up with "Signal Flare" pretty quickly (referencing Team Flare), and had the chorus melodically figured out by improvising a bit over the demo. I struggled with lyrics up until early December, finally deciding on a direction for them and knocking them out in a day. Then by the end of that week, the song was done. This turned out super cool.
