'Per dolor mi bagno il viso'
From Andrea Antico's keyboard music print Frottole Intabulate, Rome 1517.
This concert excerpt is part of the first public performance on the Renaissance harpsichord after being restored and brought back to its original state.
This Neapolitan harpsichord is thought to be the oldest - and best preserved - harpsichord in fully playable condition (c.1525). Its builder's name is not identified, although he has been recognized as the same author of an instrument housed at the Castello Sforzesco's collection in Milan.
Andrea Antico's 'Frottole Intabulate' is the first print of keyboard music ever published in Italy. It contains keyboard arrangements of 26 vocal compositions by Bartolomeo Tromboncino (1470 - c.1534) and Marchetto Cara (c.1465 - 1525). They are characterized by their vocal quality and elegance.
