Description: "The grass is greener in Montana, or so the story goes... but the price of a dream is a heavy cross that only a dead man knows."
Inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Larry McMurtry and the legendary 1989 miniseries, this original song follows the Hat Creek Cattle Company on their final, tragic journey from the dust of the Rio Grande to the plains of Montana.
Through the eyes of Captain Augustus "Gus" McCrae and Captain Woodrow Call, we explore the heavy burden of a promise kept, the ghosts of the Comanche Moon, and the fading frontier of the American West. From Jake Spoon’s tragic end to Call’s lonely trek with a salt-cured coffin, this is a tribute to the lonesome doves who traded their youth for a badge of tin.
Timeline of the Journey:
0:00 - The Rio Grande & The Hat Creek Sign
0:45 - Chorus: The Ghosts of the Comanche Moon
1:30 - The Drive: Blue Duck & Jake Spoon's Fate
2:15 - The Bridge: A Father’s Silence & A Bitter Promise
3:00 - Outro: The Ash of Lonesome Dove
