'Borneo Backpacking' - Pontianak - Wisata Mangrove Telok Berdiri

Wisata Mangrove Telok Berdiri in Desa Sungai Kupah, Kubu Raya, is an ecotourism destination built around a mangrove forest near the coast, offering both conservation and nature tourism. Spanning about 15 hectares, the area includes wooden boardwalks over the marshlands, gazebos, and viewpoints for sunsets, creating an immersive mangrove experience. One of its distinguishing features is a “digital mangrove planting” or “adoption” program where visitors can adopt a mangrove sapling, follow up its growth via a mapping app. The mangrove area hosts diverse species such as api api, berembang, and nipah, which help stabilize the coastline, slow erosion, and provide habitat for fish and crustaceans.

Locals, especially the youth, play an active role in maintaining and promoting the site; their efforts have transformed a previously quiet coastal zone into a growing attraction. Entrance fees are modest, and there are basic facilities like parking, cottages/gazebos, information kiosks, and food stalls to support visitors. The mangrove ecotourism site also serves as an outdoor classroom: people come not only for recreation, but for learning about environmental issues and mangrove ecology. Infrastructure is still being improved, especially access roads, but momentum is strong thanks to community engagement and government support. Over time, Wisata Mangrove Telok Berdiri is becoming a symbol of sustainable tourism in West Kalimantan, linking environmental protection with economic opportunity for villagers.
