Assignments & Homework:
Create a Norm-Level Takt Plan based on the example shown in the video.
Use the calculator to select your zone count and takt time.
Perform a stacking comparison [Flow Analysis] to ensure diagonal flow (crew-by-crew).
Package activities into wagons and enter them into InTakt.

What You’ll Learn
• What norm-level takt planning is (and how it differs from the macro plan)
• How to use the takt calculator to choose viable zones and takt time
• Why your takt time indicator should not be the weekend (and what to use instead)
• How to perform a process of elimination to pick a zone strategy and a backup target
• How to do a stacking comparison (diagonal flow) and adjust sequence/crew sizes
• How to run a work density analysis and adjust zone boundaries
• How to set up your norm plan in InTakt (areas, zones, activities, colors, durations)
• How buffers, vertical flows, and workable backlog stabilize your system
Video Clarifications:
In the calculator, I marked 12 zones as a “non-option,” but later used it to compare with 11 and 9 zones. This may look inconsistent, but the process of elimination is flexible. Even if marked out, options can still be reconsidered.
I used a 5-day Takt time to explain why weekends shouldn’t define Takt time, even though we rarely default to 5-day Takt. You may end up with it through analysis, but never by design—and weekends are never the Takt time.
In the video, I called the pull plan packaging exercise a “Stacking Comparison.” I’ve since renamed it “Flow Analysis” or “Work Packaging Effort” to avoid the word “stacking.”
