In this Units of History episode we venture into the world of Warhammer Fantasy. Many of its factions draw inspiration from real history and this is especially true of the Winged Lancers of Kislev who are closely modelled after the Polish Winged Hussars. Big difference being that while the historical variant charged the ranks of the Ottomans, the Warhammer variant charges into the ranks of Demons from the Realms of Chaos.

We begin the episode with an intro on Kislev lore by looking at the geography and geopolitics of the region. Next we discuss the origins of the Winged Lancers of Kislev and how they grew to be a prominent part of the army of Kislev. We then take a look at recruitment, deployment, equipment and service history. Along the way it should be quite evident where the lore of Warhammer has drawn from real military history. For instance the Siege of Kislev City during the Great War Against Chaos is quite analogous to the Siege of Vienna in 1683.
