On November 15th, 2025, the Nakashima Foundation hosted Legacy in Wood: Preserving the Nakashima Family House, a historic preservation symposium focused on the George Nakashima Family Home.
Built in the 1940s, the Family House reflects Nakashima’s unique integration of modernist principles with traditional Japanese design elements, emphasizing natural materials and craftsmanship.
The first panel is focused on Nakashima family history, featuring speakers Mira Nakashima, John DeFazio, and William Whitaker. The second panel is a summary of the investigative work completed by team members from the University of Pennsylvania and professionals in the field of conservation: John Hinchman, Wendy Jessup, Michael Henry, Mojtaba Saffarian, and Paridhi Goel.
