Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban... I remember having this on dvd as a kid and would watch it almost on repeat. The tone of the movie was more to my liking even back then when compared to the first two and even the others that followed, apart from maybe The Half Blood Prince.

Later I found out that this movie was actually directed by Alfonso Cuarón who directed Children of Men (2004), Gravity (2013) and Roma (2018) which may be the why I unconsciously gravitate towards this movie rather than any of the others.

Harry Potter's (Daniel Radcliffe) third year at Hogwarts starts off badly when he learns deranged killer Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped from Azkaban prison and is bent on murdering the teenage wizard. While Hermione's (Emma Watson) cat torments Ron's (Rupert Grint) sickly rat, causing a rift among the trio, a swarm of nasty Dementors is sent to protect the school from Black. A mysterious new teacher helps Harry learn to defend himself, but what is his secret tie to Sirius Black?
