British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast is where charming oceanfront towns meet wild backroads—and this vanlife adventure has a little of both.

We start in the seaside town of Gibsons, BC, exploring fishing boats, cozy cafés, and small-town charm before heading north in search of a hidden free campsite. The spot we find is perfect: tucked on the edge of a quiet mountain lake, surrounded by forest. But there’s one big catch…

The only way in—or out—is on an active logging road. And when the trucks start rolling before sunrise, it becomes a race against time. At 4 a.m., we fire up the van, headlights piercing the dark, knowing that every blind corner could be dangerous.

This is vanlife off the beaten path—where beauty and risk go hand in hand.
