Dr. James Tabor is a Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he is professor of Christian origins and ancient Judaism and served as Chair for a decade. His Ph.D. is from the University of Chicago. He previously taught at the University of Notre Dame and the College of William and Mary. Tabor has combined his work on ancient texts with extensive fieldwork in archaeology in Israel and Jordan, including participating in three excavations at Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. He was lso involved in efforts to get all of the Dead Sea Scrolls released in the 1990s, spearheaded by Robert Eisenman and Hershel Shanks. He has published ten books, including The Jesus Dynasty, Paul and Jesus, and most recently, Paul’s Ascent to Paradise about Paul’s mystical experience. Tabor has made 72 trips to the Holy Land since 1990 working at five different archaeological sites. He has a popular blog at jamestabor.com as well as a Youtube Channel (jamestaborvideos).
