How the Nihil Reached Tanalorr Without Going Through the Koboh Abyss

If Tanalorr was supposed to be impossible to reach without the use of a compass to navigate the Koboh Abyss, how were the Nihil able to invade the planet during the High Republic era? I believe I have the answer.
