Transporting MAN engines through Nicaragua - not for the faint-hearted!

When MAN diesel engines go travelling, it normally involves major logistical challenges. But the transport of eight 320 ton MAN 18V48/60B engines right across Nicaragua was an adventure-filled adrenaline rush which went way beyond all requirements to date. Tropical temperatures of around 40 degrees, undulating road surfaces, kerbsides and low-hanging power cables made the transport more difficult, and the power even had to be switched off in the port town of Corinto. Eruptions and ash clouds from the Momotombo volcano added to the excitement. After seven days, the MAN heavyweight engines reached the power plant set to ensure a reliable energy supply to the region around the million-strong Nicaraguan capital, Managua, by early 2017 at the latest.
